A hard drive or hard disk drive is a magnetic storage device installed inside a computer and used as a permanent storage for data. Hard drives have drive motors designed to spin magnetic platters and drive the heads and these are enclosed within a protective casing. In primary partitioning the first partition is created and it cannot be sub divided further with only four primary partitions being allowed in a hard disk. The active partition is used by the operating system to boot up the machine and can be sub divided into smaller sectors or logical drives. The extended partition uses up the remaining space and can be divided into smaller sections called logical drives. The second procedure is formatting and is done to prepare the file system in a partition for use.
Because it has moving parts the hard drive is prone to wearing off and this could lead to loss of data and it would be wise to back up one’s data elsewhere.
