External Hard Drive Storage : Blessing of technology
With new reforms in computer technology it is quite interesting to look around different devices in the market. The initial stage of computer was considered as a device which could perform complex calculation in no time however it has gone through many stages and has evolved as a necessity of every race and age. There are various specifications and classifications of computers that we can see but all concludes to one basic requirement; the speed of the processor. This is directly proportional to the memory storage capacity. And since computers and laptops are one of the most vital parts of our lifestyle one looks for the highest storage capacity. One such product is an external hard drive. It is very much similar to a hard disk drive installed in a computer however this one is just outside. Similar to internal HDD (hard disk drive) he external ones also come in various sizes and is comparatively cheaper. The basic reason why anybody would go for an external hard drive is to store the excess data. though these days we have HDDs with a very high storage capacity but introduction of various software programmes makes it a little challenging for anybody who’s looking to save prime data like files, movies, games, videos, pictures etc. storing data on internal hard drive slows down the speed of the operating system as it increases the load on the processor to process the files saved on the system. External hard drives very handy for people using laptops because unlike computers, laptops don’t have a spare drive bay. To use an external hard drive one doesn’t need to install any software. You just connect it to the computer or laptop through USB port and the system will automatically detect it.
There are 2 basic types of external hard drive; One which is 3.5 inch which can be connected through USB, FireWire or eSATA and needs to be plugged into the wall for power. The other one is 2.5 inch which again connects to the computer through USB plug and draws all the power through USB connection only. Even organising and saving data on the external hard drive is very simple. You can simply drag and drop or copy paste it from the main source. Nonetheless there are many advantages of an external hard drive which can be listed.
As mentioned above external drives give the accessibility of attaching and detaching the hard drive to the system as per user’s need. Especially when you want to store data like pictures, videos, MP3s. one also has the freedom to access the data from another system as it is not fixed to a particular system. It works as a wonderful shared storage device. Another important use of an external storage device is that you can store the data which might be confidential and personal. You don’t necessarily have to save the information on desktop or laptop hard disk drive. You can own your own external drive where you can keep your data safe and secured from others. It is quite useful for official purpose as well. Like for storing reports, presentations etc. also you can avoid carrying the whole laptop for the meetings by just carrying your external hard drive which has your data.
Another important usage of an external hard drive is for backing up files. Again this is one major requirement in offices and educational institutions where the size and number of data is pretty huge. Hence it gets important to have the previous data either removed or stored on a different device for the smooth functioning of the systems. In fact it has proven to be a boon for both offices and educational institutes because they can always get the past information almost instantly and avoid going through the nasty paper work.
